Mrs. Hagen's ideas were pretty powerful for young actors. I think some of her most powerful ideas were: Sense memory, identity and Walking and Talking. Those three really hit me because you need to be able to recall sense to help better you scene and to give you a more real presence on stage. After all, the one thing I got from the book..was that a character is just as real as me and you! Then the identity one taught me a lot about my presence and who you have to be on stage again to get that realism. Finally, changing gears a little bit the thinking and walking chapter worked really with me because I thought about all of those times were I was on stage or watching many productions and seeing people walk with no purpose or stand there and be boring. This is helpful because that in combination with S.T.E.M.S really helps the actor better himself and give them more stage presence.
The one i would choose to in each performance will probably be Talking and Walking...Because if something goes wrong my mind is the first to shut down and not really work me which makes it very difficult to come up with something on the spot. I also hope to pursue a teaching career in drama and this definatley one thing that all novices and experience actors to come by...to move with a purpose.
I don't really think most of these don't apply to the real world... Maybe Identity but that is stretching it. i guess you can say that it is good to have identity and to be true and know yourself..But other than that most of these work best for the stage because they all come and teach you how to be a human being which most of us( i hope) already know how to do.
Her teaching have been a great inspiration to me and hopefully to everyone else that has read
Thanks Guys
Jeffery :-)
